Heard Of These Different Yeast Infection Treatments?

A yeast infection is a fungal infection that affects three out of four women in the world and it is usually caused by a fungus known as Candida albicans. This is usually present in small amounts in the vagina. Studies show that out of four women, three of them will have a yeast infection at least once in their lifetime.

There are several things that bring about the infection such as pregnancy, diabetes, using oral contraceptives, antibiotics and steroids. It is found that yeast infections occur more readily after menopause as the estrogen levels reduce leading to a thinning of the vaginal walls.

Treatments For Yeast Infection

Yeast infection treatments can vary from prescription drugs to some home remedies. You can cure yeast infections using natural remedies such as probiotics, which are live microbial organisms that are found naturally in the digestive tract and vagina. These are also known as friendly bacteria and their job is to prevent the growth of harmful organisms such as candida.

Probiotic supplements are considered as a good natural remedy to cure yeast infections. These are available as oral supplements that can be prescribed by a doctor and you can get vaginal suppositories even though they are more difficult to find.

Other yeast infection treatments that one can use include boric acid, which is a chemical substance that has mild antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and studies have shown that a topical treatment is more effective while compared to an oral treatment using Itraconazole, which is an anti-fungal drug.

Yeast Arrest is made using boric acid and Oregon grape root and calendula and it is used to cure yeast infection. One should never use boric acid for a long period of time and it should never be taken orally as it is toxic. Some of its side effects include vaginal irritation and burning and it is not recommended for use by pregnant women or children.

The main symptoms of a yeast infection include: itching and burning around the vagina, a white discharge from the vagina that resembles white cottage cheese, pain during sexual intercourse and a burning sensation while urinating.

It is important for one to see a doctor once you notice one or more of the symptoms listed above as it can also be a sign of something worse. It is also recommended that one visit a gynecologist at least once a year.
