Blood Sugar Levels Problems

Blood sugar problems are, unfortunately, a common ailment that plagues millions of people all over the world. A person who suspects that he or she has blood sugar problems should see a doctor and have testing done, as blood sugar irregularities or insulin resistance can cause type 2 diabetes if not handled correctly. Such a person will also need to take a close look at his or her diet and eliminate certain foods from the diet in order to keep a handle on the blood sugar problem. Using a blood sugar levels chart is advisable, as it can help one to see what foods are causing abnormal blood sugar levels.

It is important to be aware of what a normal level of blood sugar is. In fact, the ‘normal’ levels would depend on whether one has just eaten or has not eaten for several hours. A person on an empty stomach should have what is known as a fasting blood sugar state and should not measure more than 80-100 mg/dL. A person who has just eaten, on the other hand, will normally measure between 160-180 mg/dL. This high level should decrease within a few hours until the level is back to no more than 100 mg/dL.

A person who has blood sugar levels problems should be aware that certain foods must be either minimized or completely avoided. What foods are eaten have a very large bearing on how high the blood sugar levels rise and how long it takes until these levels drop down again. A blood sugar or insulin resistance problem should be addressed and should never be taken lightly. It is also very important to exercise on a regular basis. One should choose a form of exercise that he or she enjoys or can at least tolerate, and then commit to exercising at least several times a week, with few or no exceptions.
